Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the quick descending corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
